VELUX Daylight Visualizer 2.5

A new version 2.5 of VELUX Daylight Visualizer is now available for download.

DTU Guest House project, Denmark

This new version 2.5 marks an important step for the development and use of the program as it introduces the 3D importer, a new feature of Daylight Visualizer which gives the possibility to import 3D models generated by CAD programs.

The 3D importer enables the evaluation of daylighting performance for a wider range of building types, shapes, and sizes, and facilitates the workflow between Daylight Visualizer and other programs used by professionals within the building industry.

This newsletter also informs on improvements to the modeller and user interface functionalities, automatic updates service and more.

Main features of version 2.5.3 released in September 09:

• Implementation of a 3D importer

• Implementation of a service for automatic updates

• Implementation of new view port functionalities (zoom, pan, fit, measure)

• Optimizations of the 2 slopes roof functionalities

• Optimizations of the user interface functionalities

• Implementation of a 3D preview shaded mode

• Added new material types and predefined surfaces

• Optimizations of the camera settings and functionalities

3D importer

The 3D importer is a new feature which gives the possibility to import 3D models generated by CAD programs. With the 3D importer it’s now possible to evaluate the daylighting performance of a wider range of building types, shapes, sizes and complexity. The 3D importer also facilitates the workflow between Daylight Visualizer and other programs used by professionals within the building industry.

New materials

New material types and predefined surfaces have been  added to the surface database in order to offer more flexibility and support imported 3D models. The new material types include a.o. metal and solid glass.

3D preview

The 3D preview can now be rendered with a shaded mode. The 3D importer uses the shaded mode only, while the modeller offers the possibility to choose between the wire frame or shaded mode.

Automatic updates

A service for automatic updates has been implemented. The options to check for update or to enable the automatic update feature are located under the help menu. The automatic updates service will ensure that users are informed on the latest version available.

View ports functionalities

The user interface view ports functionalities have been improved to facilitate the use and manipulation of imported 3D models. It is now possible to zoom in/out, pan, fit and measure the model using assigned shortcuts or buttons. The view ports functionalities have been implemented in both the modeller and importer of Daylight Visualizer.

Modeller - 2 slopes roof

The modeller 2 slopes roof functionalities have been optimized to permit more flexibility in the roof shapes, and to make it more intuitive to define for users. The images below show a few examples of the new 2 slopes roof shapes which can be created.
